Ann, a resident at Delmanor Prince Edward couldn’t be happier. She moved into her suite a year ago, drawn in immediately by the south-facing terrace, and hasn’t looked back since. Her love of life, bursting positivity, and enthusiasm are infectious. According to Ann, she “couldn’t be happier,” and it shows.
A Love of Gardening
Ann, a serious gardener, wasted no time in filling her terrace with a multitude of plants and greenery. Among her collection, she has a fifth-generation cherry tomato plant, a strawberry plant that bears fruit for her each morning for breakfast, and bean plants. However, the prize of her collection is a lavender plant that is two feet across and was given to her as a present when she moved into Delmanor.
Ann also helps out in Delmanor’s community garden on the 9th floor terrace. She makes sure that the plants are being looked after and that residents are aware of what is available.
Day in the Life
When asked what an average day looked like, she let out an easy laugh and answered, “busy.” Ann has always loved to entertain, lavishly and well. At Delmanor, she continues this, having friends over two to three times a week. She explains how now, though, her entertaining is even better because she gets to do the fun part: Delmanor does all the set-up, cleaning, and work – she just enjoys the socialization.
Ann is also an ambassador, helping new residents adjust to life at Delmanor, and she and her husband founded the West End Probus Group, which she still keeps busy with.
Living Her Best Life Ever
Ann credits living “her best life ever” here at Delmanor to the outstanding staff and her own personal outlook on life.
She feels indebted to the staff at Delmanor who go out of their way to make everyone smile. To her, the fact that she feels they truly care and that everyone from the cleaners to the staff to the medical professionals knows her name is a big thing.
Ann feels very safe and knows that if something is wrong that she can’t handle, someone will be there right away to help.
She acknowledges that retirement living can be a challenge, but at Delmanor she feels that it is easy, as residents are allowed to do whatever they want, as long as they are physically able to do so.
Ann’s outlook on life is nothing short of inspiring.
To Ann, being happy is a decision that you have to make, and sometimes it is not easy. But you always have a choice. She gives the example that even if someone rubs you the wrong way, you can still meet someone else.
She indicates that a good life as a senior requires you to adapt to change and disappointment. Change is inevitable, but the change can be better than the original.
Her Advice for Younger Generations
Ann wants younger people to know that they can also live their best retirement life, and that growing older can be wonderful.
She stresses that people should start to plan young, especially financially, so they too can live a good life when they are older.
